Me-Vid Evaluation

Introduction

I had to create a 3 minute me-vid that had to include photo and what are my hobbies and interest and what I do in my spear time. I also had to include a green screen shot of me filming. below you can see the script this what I made that's why I create my Me-Vid video.

Pre-production=planning section and scripts

Overall I could improve the planning & organizing of my script, by
ensuring the actors can meet the schedule, therefore reducing the need to keep changing the script. During the planning stage I used a software called bubbl.us this website allowed me to create a spider diagram to list my key moments this was successful because I then used this to make up my script.

Production skills=getting videos, music footage

This was a major issue for me because I used two different cameras that were not compatible with each other. One of the problems that I had was that I couldn't view the HD scenes on the non HD camera. I will improve by checking the equipment next time to make sure that it’s the right one.
Another problem that occurred was getting the videos and transferring them onto my scratch folder because I haven’t used a mac in quite a long time and it’s not an easy thing to do. I now feel that I have some experience from using the Mac but I’m still in the process of learning how to use to it’s fully extend.

post-production

For my me-vid I had to edit all of my shots on a software called Final Cut Express.I also used a program called Live Type to design my graphics for my finished me-vid video. I found it a challenge because, the software I first used was called I movie and that was straight forward but when I used final cut express it was confusing but in the end I learned how to use it and i will continue to build on my editing skills and use the software the it's full extend.

New skills that I've learned

I learnt how to create a script for my work and this helped me organize how the shot will come together

I learnt how to use final cut express which is a new software to me as i'm used to using windows movie maker or I movie.

I have now learnt how to use live type i'm still trying to use it it's full extend but in the mean time this software has helped me because I can design my graphics on it then it will appear on the screen.

I have learned how to use a green screen and how to edit it on final cut express for example   Below you, you can see the green screen and how it came out and as you can tell that's there's no green.

below you can see my Me-Vid and see me in action

Evaluation

Edit workshop Evaluation

The Encounter was our first piece of exercise in year 12. We were given a brief to work to and had to use our own creativity to further develop the situation given to us on the brief.

Rule of thirds

We clearly used the 180 degree rule during our production, rule of thirds is necessary as it allows movement in the shot and also maintains a balance on the screen so that the eye line of the person on the screen is 3/4 way up the screen, which makes the audience  look at something that the person is looking back at them. We also used the 180 degree rule which is one of the most important rules to follow whilst filming our work . The camera cannot go 180 degrees past the persons body or it confuses the audience if the person being shot is on  the right or left of the screen. We broke this rule whilst filming and realized when we imported all the shots into i movie  This then made  us have to re edit.

Match on action
We used match on action very successfully and kept to the brief, The match on action had to be someone, Match the action of the paper throwing into a bin.Match on action is an important part of continuity editing as it creates a smooth flow in the movie which we were working on.  During our filming we faced many problems however we changed our position twice as the the throwing of the paper  did not end up in the bin this made no sense and was not suitable for our movie. If I was to film again I would change a lot of things such as our location the alley way was not perfect for the scene that we filmed and I will make the throwing of the paper sinc with going in the bin and I will focus more.

When filming I faced  some challenges, one of them was picking a day when me and my partner could film there was one day when I could not be there to help because I was busy and, also I had another challenge where I didn't focus and I lost concentration quickly however we faced a major challenge because of our story board because we were doing the storyboard individually instead of doing as a group we also took our time filming because we were getting confused with the camera angle and, shot. We also found another problem because the actors took time to get in character which had a huge role in our filming.

In my edit workshop session Chris showed me how to use a program called I Movie. and I had to use it because I had to make changes to my video because some parts didn't make sense and, it was missing  footage this allowed me to edit it and make the footage link to each other. I struggled because I  had to re film the footage that's why it made sense because in the first draft it was paper magically ending on the floor but when I had to re film I made sure that when my partner threw the paper it would end in the bin this meant that we had used match on action.

I think if I had to re film this whole project I will concentrate and, I will focus because when we were filming it took us ages to film because we would spend at least 6 to 10 minutes on the first shot while if we did it quicker it would not of took us ages and I will try to stay after school that's why we can film, however I will be more organised along side with my partner, because we easily forget things.

Overall I thought that we did a great job but I think that we needed to make a massive improvement because our story board did not make any sense at all and we will be more organised ,we will also use a different variety of camera angle and shots and we will work at a quicker pace.

Explanation of my idea

I will be using a variety of storyboards to plan out my scene that will be taking in an alley way and is about a wallet being lost in an alley way, but someone comes and retrieve it, we will be carrying this out using a variety of different camera techniques the camera techniques that we will be using is rule of thirds, shot/reverse/shot and match on action. I will be also using various amount of shot type such as an establishing shot, straight angle and, mid shot. Also I will be using a range of editing techniques such as cut/fade in and fade out.

The first shot that I've used was an establishing shot in the first scene, in this first scene the wallet was in the alley way alone and the shot type was a high angle shot I've decided to use the establishing shot because I knew that it would set the scene. I decided to use a high shot because it would highlight the relevant action in the scene which was wallet alone the alleyway. I used match on action in the eighth and ninth scene such as when Darren opened and closed the door because it was necessary to show the transition between him opening and walking through. I used mid shot because it fills the screen and there’s no dead space. At points  in my scene that uses dialogue, such as scene ten and eleven I used shot/reverse/shot to indicate and introduce who’s talking and make it flow between dialogue, I used  a close up in shot/reverse/shot, so the audience knows who’s talking and which character is listening.

The editing technique that I will be using in the first scene is a Fade in because it will fade into the next scene and the audience will know which scene it is also the in the next couple of scenes I will be using a vast amount of cuts because then the mistakes that I done will be edited therefore it will be cuts and in the end of the scene i will be using a Fade out to black because the audience will know that its the end of the scene.

The Encounter (first draft)

here is a video of my first draft that I had to created in my media lesson and I had to use a variety of camera techniques but in this first draft my video didn't make sense because there was no match on action so I had to re edit it that's why it made sense and there was match on action

The Final Encounter (second draft and final)

here is my final video which I made changes to and I added these changes such as match on action near the end and we stuck to the 180 degree rule we also used a variety of different camera techniques such as shot/reverse/shot, near the end there is match on action which I had to re edit because on the first one I didn't have it but on the final one I had to add it in so I added it in.

My Summer

Films
I spent a vast amount of time watching films. I watched a film called “X- Men First Class” which is a story based on a collective group of characters, aged between 18 - 40 years old and their journey in discovering and learning how to master their mutant skills. The reason for selecting this film is because it falls in the genre of action/adventure, which is something that interests me as I enjoy the fast pace scenes loaded with action and relevant non-digetic music. One of the quotes that I found funny was “Oh, Jesus! Gentlemen, this is why the CIA is no place for a woman.” i found it hilarious because men assume that women can't do much in fact because she lost her memory.

Song
During my summer holidays I listened to a variety of songs but that was on constant replay was a song called,” Us Against The World” by Clement Marfo. I chose this song because it means a lot to me. I was able to connect to the artist, in this song he uses lyrics such as “I'm just speaking my mind, any solution on what to do
Please don't shoot the messenger, Mr prime minister” and another lyric that I  like is “Treat others how you like to be treated, treat people the same
Treat everybody even, as long you are breathing
Everyday is an achievement”  I chose these lyrics because they align with my personal views.

TV programmes
I watched a lot of TV programmes but the one that I watched the most, was the World cup. I chose the World Cup because it is a well-known event which unites several nationalities together plus the genre is sport, which is a major bonus for me. I appreciated the use of good camera shots, especially those that included the fans.  I saw the reactions of the fans entertaining and funny  . The World Cup was very entertaining and exciting. Another TV show that I had watched was called Match Of The Day, I liked this TV show because it shows highlights about the football matches and tells you information about the upcoming football matches.

Websites
I spent most of my time browsing the internet, through Google as I found it to be an efficient search engine, and be watching a variety of YouTube videos. I find YouTube to be a great source of entertainment as you can go from watching a video of talking cats to a tutorial on how to do the latest dance. YouTube is a great platform to watch what other people are getting up to in the world and plus its free!,another website that i used was Wikipedia because its an excellent and resourceful site were i can find information about the world.

Story
The story that I  had heard about was when, Germany beat Brazil (7-1) this was a horrific lost to the Brazilians because they were the ones, who hosted the world cup  this year. What was most disturbing was the metro article with the “Brazil fans torture themselves by creating never-ending Germany vs. Brazil” title, which was about a fan made website imagining what the score would have been like if the match continued. I found this article interesting because it was the Brazilian fans who created this site instead of the German fans. It is astonishing that the Brazilian fans were not happy with the final score but went on to create a site dedicated to the defeat of their football players.
